Trains

OUR HOBBY
_______________________________

Ok, here's our hobby... Frank and I are train fanatics. When I say fanatics, I mean it. We have a G-scale garden railroad layout in our yard. And in our house. And anywhere you look, there is a train. We have a layout that runs in the house over the kitchen cabinets. One time while I was doing dishes, the train derailed and a car fell into the sink, nearly missing me. Good thing I wasn't injured. Can you imagine the 9-11 call on that? "Hello, 9-11? My wife's been hit by a train. In the kitchen!"

Our vacations are train oriented. We journey to destinations where you can still ride the rails of the Old West, chugging along to the haunting echo of a steam engine whistle. Or letting your imagination soar back to logging days as you ride an authentic Shay engine.

Isn't she beautiful?!! This Shay we rode out in California.

Our yard. This is before Frank expanded the layout. He fashioned the railroad crossing sign himself and wired it.

This is our Shay, which runs on an incline Frank built by the back fence. It winds in and out of the palm trees. Shays can handle steep grades.
This bridge is between our kitchen and the garage. The inside layout goes through the attic, over the kitchen cabinets, into the family room, into the garage.
The train says night night and goes into the shed. It's not the only object in there. Lizards, insects and even a snake have dozed off inside the buildings.
